I remember the first time I heard this album way back when I was in high school. I remember sitting in Sean’s dad’s truck on the way somewhere (we never really knew where we were going) and him telling me to pop in this awesome new CD that he had found…. it was a worship CD. At the time Sean and I were both leading worship together all over the place (his church, our bible club, and anywhere else that was desperate enough to use two high school guys who sucked at guitar and singing) and we were always looking for new music. At that time the big thing in worship music was all the stuff that was coming out of the Vineyard churches but even that was pretty tame. Anyway, so I popped the CD in expecting it to be another CD where we would find one or two songs that we might use every once in a while, if that. Let me tell you though that I was instantly blown away. Was this really Christian music? Was this really worship music? WOW!!! It doesn’t all suck. (I chuckled as I typed that because I thing I really felt like that)
Fast forward 10 years. I was sitting at home this morning and just wanting (and needing) to spend some time with God and just sit in His presence. These times for me don’t come as often as I would like but when I get them they are like pure gold. Anyway, as a worship leader these times for me usually involve music in some way, shape, or form. So today that form was a little round disk that I like to call a CD, ever heard of that? My CD of choice 10 years later is still disk one of this album. Many albums have come and gone through the years and many songs have impacted me in different ways but I don’t think any album will ever have as much impact or mean as much to me as this one here. This was the album where I really learned how to worship. This is the album that single handedly transformed my whole view of christian music. This was the album that gave me a passion to lead others in worshiping God.
This is my sanctuary album and I think it always will be. I can still to this day stick it in my player and fall to my knees and worship with all of my heart and all of my soul. I love that I don’t have to worry about learning new lyrics, or listening for knew stuff, or even trying to learn how to play the song. I can just sit back and worship.
Do any of you have any albums like this? Albums that transformed you? Albums that move you? Albums that no matter where you’re at or whats going on in your life you can pop in and worship God? I hope you do. If you don’t…. I’ll gladly share mine.
