I know there are a bunch of gear heads out there so for those of you who get excited about this stuff I want to let you know that I just finished updating my gear page so if you wanna see what I’m using then you can either click here or on the My Gear Tab at the top of this page.

Does anyone else out there have a gear page? I wanna see it.

You’ve got a Crowdster!? How do you like it? I’ve thought about picking one up myself. Is it worth it?

You play a Songwriter Deluxe! Same here, man. I love that guitar.

Eric, I totally got blessed with being able to get the Crowdster about a year ago when one of my other guitars (my Larrivee…*tear*) was stolen. It’s a great guitar and plays beautifly. It along with my Songwriter make a perfect combo cause the crowdster cuts through anything and sounds great with delay and other effects and the Songwriter has that beautiful flowie sound that you would kill for in an acoustic guitar. It’s the best of both worlds.

I do have to say though that I probably wouldn’t just keep my Crowdster alone and not have another regular acoustic cause for me the crowdster doesn’t fill in all the gaps. It’s more of a specialized guitar. For example, I wouldn’t play it if we were the only one on stage playing leading worship alone (in my opinion it’s not full enough and natural sounding enough for that) or I wouldn’t take it to mexico for a missions trip. Thats why I have both.

Stephen, do you have the one with the cutout or the regular one? Either way I love my Gibson.

When I went to go buy it though I had to play a bunch of them to find the exact sound that I wanted. It’s funny but just like any guitar they all vary and have their own personality.

You can’t tell that I love talking about this stuff can you?

I prefer cutouts. Not that I really need one at this point, I just like the way it looks, and if I do need it, it’s always there. I would make a gear page, but my stuff is pretty pitiful in comparison. Time for an upgrade, but it’s going to have to wait a year or so! (I am single and bought my own house instead!) Anyway, instead of being jealous, I will say congrats on being blessed with all that cool gear!

    I’ve got a Line6 DL4 but I’m thinking of switching it out for a DD-20. Any thoughts?

I’m also planning on picking up a Fulldrive 2 MOSFET - it’s the greatest distortion pedal on the planet!

Is that a TC Helicon chorus? What do you think of it?

I’m planning on picking up a Keely compressor and you actually have the reverb pedal I’m looking at too! I’m also considering a Verbzilla…

    Good taste, mate.

    You’re speaking my love language.

I actually have both the DL4 and the DD-20 and have been trying to figure out which I want to keep. You see I just got a TC Nova delay (I think you mistook that for the Chorus) and it is amazing. It blows both of them away but I like having the second delay on my board just so I can have two different delay settings if I need them. Anyway, currently the DD20 is winning the delay battle but I might switch that out with a Boss DD5 that I have cause it occupies less space and sounds great.

The Fulldrive is amazing too… it’s highly recommended by this gear geek as is the Holy Grail. I have heard some good stuff about the Verbzilla though. The HG is super basic and it does what you need well but it’s a bit of a power hog.

Two things that are on my wishlist are the Keely Compressor and the Fulltone OCD… We’ll see what happens.

Let me know what you decide on the Delay battle and all the other stuff. I love this stuff.

Thanks for the info - are you saying that, as far as tone goes, the TC delay kills the BOSS and the Line6?

That’s REALLY interesting… The only bummer is that you can only access one delay preset on the TC. I really like the fact that I can access 3 on the DL4 - it just sucks volume and tone like a monster…

Can you instantly access 2 different delay presets on the DD-20 with the 2 pedals?

I’ve messed around with a buddy’s Keeley Compressor and OCD before and they’re both ridiculous. The KC is probably the best way to instantly improve your tone that I’ve ever heard.

I just made the biggest splurge of life this week, on a Divided By 13 JRT 9/15 amp rig. Trust me - it’s probably the finest amp on the planet (my wife says if it’s not, she’s going to kill me).

Nice stuff, man. Here’s my gear page. I need to get a bigger board so that I can fit a few more things on there, namely a Barber Tone Press (compressor), tremolo, reverb, and maybe another delay. I eventually want to get a PP2 to power everything, but the VS OneSpot is working for now.

  11. 11 Jeff Thompson Dec 18th, 2007 at 7:58 am

Phillip - shame on you for considering any compressor other than the Keeley.

Form what I’ve been hearing, the TC Reverb i sthe best one out there…

  12. 12 Phillip Dec 18th, 2007 at 8:06 am

Jeff, have you checked out the Barber? It has a blend function so that you can mix the dry signal with the compressed signal so that you don’t lose all of your picking dynamics. I’ve played both the Keeley and the Barber and the Tone Press is king, IMO.

The TC stuff looks nice, btw.

Yea man - I just checked it out and I can’t find anybody who’ll say a bad thing about it! The only thing that I like more about the Keeley is the fact that it doesn’t have a volume knob, so you don’t have to mess with matching your levels. I just ordered a Keeley because it takes up less precious pedalboard real estate but if you’ve got the space, the Barber seems like a no-brainer for less cash. Thanks for the tip!
