Barkley’s response is the same old “throw the baby out with the bathwater” sentiments that are far too easily made. Sir Charles should read a little deeper into the Bible so that he would know that we are called not to be judgmental. However, we are certainly called to call a spade a spade, so to speak, with gentleness.
If Barkley applied his same rhetoric and logic to his own situation, he would never run for governor of Alabama, or any other state for that matter, because (insert tongue in cheek) everyone know that all politicians are liars, cheats, and swindlers, especially those from the south… right?
It’s probably the most misquoted and misunderstood Scripture these days. “Judge not”. We were NEVER told NOT to judge. We were told not to judge hypocritically. But until someone steps up and says that out loud in the public arena, we’ll keep being called hypocrites.
People also seem to forget context. That quote was said to certain people, at a certain, about a specific event. While the principals hold value it is not a command directed at the modern day Christian church. How does living a life true to your religious convictions become judgment anyway? Good luck Charles.
I believe he is referring to Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.”
It goes on to say “For with the judgement you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, Let me get the speck out of your eye when there is a log in your own eye? You hyprocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
I believe that this does apply to us today and is a command but the whole context needs to be considered. We are not to be pointing out sin in other’s lives while living in sin in our own.. It is when we can see clearly (not living in sin ourselves)that we can humbly point to what truth is and says.
2 Tim 3: 16 says that ” all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
Galatians 6:1-2 also says ” Brothers if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch of yourself, lest you too be tempted.
If somebody claims to be a christian than we as fellow christians are called to keep each other accountable..
Many times we expect non-christians to have our convictions and hold to the truth that we claim….. If they don’t have Christ, then they won’t have that conviction to obey His word… But we as Christians can still lovingly share truth as we live our lives for Christ… which means we that we do say that all forms of sexual activity outside of God’s plan is sin.. this not only is limited to homosexuality but includes cheating on your spouse, sex outside of marriage, etc.. and we do say murder is wrong no matter what stage of life that human being is in… we should not fear sharing truth when our lives in all areas reflect that truth.
Ok, my mini sermon is done
I just tend to find in funny when someone judges another person because their judgmental…and calls em hypocrites in the same breath, too. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black…errrr…I promise, that wasn’t a racial slur, Sir Charles.

Well, that was good for a laugh.
Not judging another, has nothing to do with the fact you do or do not have sin in your life. Sin is sin, and ALL of us are sinners! It is by Gods grace and mercy that we are forgiven, not through any effort of our own. In other words, “don’t bother me about my problems, worry about your own!” In that, Sir Charles is correct!
