While we’re on the topic of movies here can someone answer a question for me? I’ve heard a few commercials on the radio for the movie There Will Be Blood which I guess is a pretty good movie if you listen to the reviews. Anyway, in the ad there is a line that makes me wonder every time I hear it and I just want to know the story behind it because it seems so random for a movie that has such serious Oscar buzz. Here’s the line:
No tags for this post.I drink your milkshake!!! I drink it up!!!
The oil tycoon uses milkshakes as a metaphor to explain how someone can steal someone else oils - even though no one has drilled on this land. But putting a long straw into the other guys “milkshake” you can drink up all their oil.
Nice analogy. I am interested in the movie as well, but I have but yet to see a movie with the main actor that I’ve liked, although I’ve always liked the characters he plays. Strange conundrum.
Anyway, if you like reading, the movie is based on Upton Sinclair’s Oil, which I have also not read.
It’s a great film, and that line inspired me to make a recipe for blood orange milkshakes:

The line is a reference to the Teapot Dome scandal. An oil tycoon testified before Congress and used the milkshake metaphor to describe drainage.
